echoes
Champagne fizzed in my mouth.
He watched me swallow —
close enough
to hear my breath slow
until my heartbeat
took over the room.
A bar stool slid away
as time pulsed in rhythm
to the heat
of our gaze,
until my wrist
brushed his face.
Shoes kicked aside.
Champagne lingered
at the edge of her lips
as I moved close enough
to feel the heat of her kiss.
My heartbeat slowed
as the room fell away.
Darkness wrapped around us both,
pulse holding, silence close.
Fingertips tracing,
knuckles shaking,
almost touch —
not enough.
Pushing down,
knees bent to the ground,
breath stopped short,
taking your hand,
finding your pulse.
Softly kissed.
Pushing up.
Only silence now
between us
till words
evaporate.
Glued to our lips.
Fingers touching hips.
Holding close now.
Much closer now.
Only breath is allowed.
Your touch —
Never enough.
Pulling up,
harder now,
pulse syncing,
heartbeat pumping.
Glancing higher —
her gaze undressing.
Every breath between.
Every thing unseen.
Beneath — breaks.
Silence cracks.
Spine rising — arching.
Heat surges through.
No words left
to contain it.
Rising higher now,
pushing harder,
fingertips resting,
senses fully wired.
Fingers intertwining,
veins running faster,
lips — smokiness on fire.
Her gaze removes
what’s left,
leaving only memories
behind.
Spines lifted,
shoulders weightless.
No edges left —
no ground to touch.
Only echoes
in the air.ㅤ

Mark, I loved this poem. You have an uncanny ability to zoom into a moment in time and make it palpable for the reader. Awesome!
