before love
a prompt
A small prompt shared with Vianne Armour — just to see where it might lead.
These are the two poems that followed.
The prompt:
“Did sin come before love”
Did sin come before love,
he said,
pushing his finger round the top of the mug
like a question worn smooth.
The room did not answer.
It never did.
Only an ache,
deep enough
to rock what lay buried
in the quiet
of time—
maybe sin is needed
to show us where
distance thins—
where love
finds the gap
and steps closer
in.
—
And something in that ache
shifted—
as if the silence
had somewhere to go.
A touch. A breath.
A kiss
at the nape of his neck.
As if the space between them
had been waiting
to open.
His hand remained—
her gaze, unending.
And for a moment,
neither word
felt first—
only the distance,
softening
under her mouth,
enough
to let love in
and quench
that thirst.
Did sin come before love? Want before need? Standing in the shadow of doubt hollowemptyon promises unmet lustful limerant lies that forged our demise fertilizer seeds sewn for love to grow from decay that also nourishes painfully till love flourishes to deliver us from evilcloudrain soaks the seeds of yearning we’re learning the look and feel of love which isn’t Hollywood the smouldering glamour is sin reckless abandon of the fantasy life is love nothing hotter than a siren in heels buying her own flowers a self-love finger up me and me loving you filled up satiated enough So yes it came first but only as part of the earth sun moon day night sin love whole loving you through me Infinitely

Nothing truly leaves — it just changes how it stays.
If something moved in you — a silence that whispered — I’d love to hear it below, or in my DM’s.

Ah, the chicken-and-egg question, haha. Truly, you two did well. In the end, love wins.
I love this. The first one feels soft and true… I can relate.
And the second flips it completely, like fuck it, but somehow it finds its way back in anyway.
Also, I’m glad I’ve had the chance to get to know you both. ✨
