Dont ever be careful or play it socially approved. Gentlemen like us can put the punk slut to sleep. I like the other side of the Gentleman.

You’ve made grammar dangerously seductive. Even grammar probably had no idea its punctuation marks could ever receive this much attention. 😉♥️

As a non-native English speaker, I can't even imagine writing something this deep. The imagery is so vivid and gorgeous. I love how the author blends intimacy with reading and writing, turning sex into a literal conversation of grammar and text. Absolutely brilliant.

Or wait, maybe I completely misunderstood the whole thing?

Mark Crutchfield's avatar

Thanks Timichelle! You’ve caught it perfectly and I’m so pleased it worked with you not being english native speaking - that gives me a big grin 😊

This is a beautiful and visceral piece. The language of poetry as intimacy. The vowels that rip you open. The grammar that slips down your throat. The metaphors that forget which mouth they belonged to.

The line that stays is the one that holds the whole thing: "I don't need your porn — or the shapes it expects. Just your lips reading the punctuation of my form."

That is the distinction. The expected shapes versus the real form. The porn versus the poetry. The performance versus the presence.

Mark Crutchfield's avatar

Thanks, Vlad - the performance vs the presence is something I think we all seek and desire. One lasts internally, and the other falls away in a flash. One we can feel, and the other rarely touches us deeply.

Once, the mask is taken,

We cry, like vulnerability's child, in an innocent lullaby.

Vlad Tverdohleb's avatar

Beautifully put, Robert. Once the mask falls away, vulnerability can return us to something remarkably simple and innocent.

Perhaps beneath all the identities we construct, **the self that remains is much softer than we ever imagined.** 🙏

Robert's avatar

Thank you so much Vlad. Your feelings regarding life and others is truly amazing.

Vlad Tverdohleb's avatar

Thank you, Robert. I think there is something very precious in being able to see life and other people without immediately needing to judge, categorize, or defend against them.

Perhaps when we become softer toward life, we also become more capable of truly seeing it and being touched by it.

Vlad Tverdohleb's avatar

Exactly. Performance can create an impression, but presence creates an imprint. One depends on sustaining an image; the other doesn't need to prove itself at all. And perhaps that's why genuine presence tends to remain with us long after the performance has disappeared.

Mark Crutchfield's avatar

Yes and perfectly said!

Thank you, Mark.
