Soft pads landing on stone got me right away... Such a quiet ugly little sound, and suddenly the whole thing felt way too close... I kind of loved how mean that was. 😆
I adored this - the imagery is of course dark and stalking, but it's the light touch that allows the rhyme to pad off-beat, taking me by surprise again and again, catching me unawares that really makes this unsettling. I loathe clunky rhyme, and this is the absolute antithesis of that.
